REFLECTION TASK 2A
In
this task, I want to give some information about major gods and goddesses
in Greek Mythology. I picked this topic because I’m interested in Greek
Mythology more or less. There is a place called ”Olympus”. Gods rule the
world from here. In Greek Mythology, there are 12 major gods and goddesses,
but I’m going to talk about some of them. There are 6 children of
Rheia and Kronos. These are Hestia, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus, Hera and Demeter.
Zeus is the most important god, and he is the father of the gods. He
is the god of the thunder, and he is frequently depicted with a thunderbolt
leveled in his raised right hand. He is also infamous for his erotic
escapades. Poseidon is the brother of Zeus, and he is god of the sea.
Additionally, he is referred to as ”Earth-Shaker” due to his role in causing
earthquakes, and has been called the ”tamer of horses”. Hades is the
brother of Zeus. He is the god of the underworld and death. He abducted Persephone, the daughter of Zeus. Then, they get married and live
in the underworld. Hera is the wife and one of 3 three sisters of Zeus. She
is the goddess of women and marriage. She is known for her jealousy. She
has an influence on Zeus’ important decisions. Zeus has a lot of wifes and
children. Athena, Hephaistos, and Ares are children of Zeus and Hera. Apollon
and Artemis are children of Zeus and Leto. Dionysus is the son of Zeus
and Semele. Hermes is son of Zeus and Maia. Finally, Persephone is the
daughter of Zeus and Demeter. I hope these information will be useful for
you to have an idea about them.
REFLECTION TASK 3
If I were a jury member of the
committee chosing the person of the year, my candidate would be Fernando
Muslera, who is a Uruguayan footballer playing as a goalkeeper for Turkish
club Galatasaray and the Uruguayan national team. He was selected as the
7th best goalkeeper in the world in 2010 and 6th best goalkeeper in the
world in 2011. He began his career at Montevideo Wanderers and Nacional,
moving to Lazio in 2007 where he won the 2009 Coppa Italia Final. In 2011,
he was signed by Galatasaray for around €12. While
choosing the person of the year, I would take into consideration some features
such as successfulness, making progress in his/her business, and politeness.
In view of these characteristics, Muslera fits to be chosen the people
of the year. First of all, he is a successful goalkeeper. He usually clears
the ball and prevents his team to lose points. Moreover, he is chosen the
goalkeeper of the year in 2015. Secondly, he is making progress in his career.
For example, the first match he played, he conceded a goal in the first
minute of the game. However, in 2012, he scored a penalty goal, his first
and only goal. Furthermore, with his clearing the ball, he contributed to
his team to be Champion in 2015. Last but not least, he is a polite person.
For instance, once, he congratulated the footballer, who scored a goal
to himself, by stroking his cheek. Also, his attitude was appreciated by the
supporter of Fenerbahçe. In conclusion, by virtue of these reasons, my candidate
would be Fernando Muslera.

REFLECTION TASK 1A
Hi everyone,
I’m Hayriye from FLE Department. This is
my first grade at METU, but it’s my second year. I went to prep-school
last year. I am not the member of a student club, but I would like to join
Gastronomy Club because I don’t know how to cook. However, I want to learn
cooking. This club teaches how to cook. Meanwhile, you can have a nice
time with your club friends. What’s more, in this club, students enjoy
while eating; while enjoying, they learn. That is, this club both beneficial and
enjoyable. As for my experiences, I can’t say that I’m gifted. Besides, I
haven’t cooked so many times. I just know cooking macaroni and soup. Also,
I can cook yaprak sarması for Bairam with my grandmother. Once, I cooked
meatball and spring rolls. I guess that’s my whole cooking experience,
unfortunately. I’m saying ”unfortunately” as I really want to
cook. My friends really cook well, and sometimes I envy them and say “I wish
I could cook like them.” Actually, I don’t try much, or I don’t watch while
someone is cooking. If I did so, I might learn. I think I can learn with
some experience, and I realize this by joining this club. I hope so.
REFLECTION TASK 2B
I want to
write about a film called ”Delibal” in this task because I liked the film and
its topic. It’s a film that I have watched recently. I went to it with my best
friends for one of our friends’ birthday, and we all enjoyed while watching. As
for film, there is a girl and a boy. They are in the same university, but they
meet in a cafe. The boy fall in love with the girl as soon as he sees her, and
he tries to reach her. Things happened, and they decide to get married. The girl’s
father doesn’t approve this marriage ;nevertheless, they get married and they
are happy. However the boy is sick. That’s why he suicide to protect his wife
from himself at the end of the film. I really liked the film, but some parts
are really over-exaggerated like the boy’s proposal. I know that it’s just a
film, but somethings could have been more real-like. One more thing, suiciding
himself to protect his wife seems to me illogical because his wife is upset
when he dies. Consequently, she would be upset one way or another. However, it’s a film and despite of these
things, the film is really impressive, touching, and emotional. I advice the
film people that haven’t seen it yet. I think it’s worth to watch.
FREE REFLECTION 2
There are some differences and similarities between
the Çatı and Cafeteria at METU, and I’m going to tell some of them. First,
the food is different in terms of expense and selection. Food is more
expensive at Çatı compared with the Cafeteria. However, Çatı is cheaper than any
other cafes at METU. Also, you can buy your food by weighing it at
Çatı whereas there is fixed menu at Cafeteria. Furthermore, food is much
more delicious and various at Çatı. On the contrary, at Cafeteria, menu
is specified before, and food is less delicious. Second and last, both are
situated on the same place. They are close to each other on campus.
However, compared with the Cafeteria, the atmosphere of Çatı is more sincere and nice. The Cafeteria is usually crowded but spacious. Çatı is also crowded,
but it isn’t as spacious as Cafeteria. Indeed, sometimes, my friends and I have difficulty in finding a place to sit there. In conclusion, Çatı and the Cafeteria have both similarities and differences in terms of food,
expense, selection, location and atmosphere.
